About the event
The Opera Atelier joins forces with Arts Ballet Theatre of Florida to present Spain, my Love: Opera Meets Ballet, a celebration of Spanish heritage. The double bill opens with the world premiere of Juana Inés, a one-act opera about Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz- the leading intellectual of the Spanish Colonial period, as she seeks to reconcile her faith and her pursuit of knowledge. The opera, with libretto by Daniel Daroca, and music by Venezuelan composer Federico Ruiz, is presented with the participation of Voices of Miami.
The second part of the performance continues the celebration with Arts Ballet Theatre of Florida in two brilliant ballet choreographies: the nostalgic Tarde en la Siesta, with music by Lecuona, choreographed by Alberto Méndez, and the exuberant ballet Viva Espana, with music by Massenet, and choreography by Vladimir Issaev, Artistic Director of Arts Ballet Theatre of Florida.
