About the event

The No Room of Her Own series celebrates the contributions of trailblazing women artists, opening with a theatrical performance of Virginia Woolf’s famous lecture, “A Room of Own’s Own.” Watch as the groundbreaking modernist novelist formulates her argument that the genius of women writers has been constrained historically not by a lack of talent, but by a lack of resources: a steady income and place to write. Woolf’s description of the anguish experienced by women of thwarted genius hints at the anguish the radical author experienced herself. The lecture is reenacted by Dr. Celeste Landeros, Barry University Professor of English and Humanities. This is a conversation about the series, Woolf's essay, and the performance of "A Room of One's Own" of June 3, 2023.
