Opera Juana Inés

An original interdisciplinary work by The Opera Atelier fusing opera, contemporary dance, and performance art, based on the life and times of Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz. A towering intellectual of XVII Century Mexico, the self-educated Sor Juana is among the greatest writers in the Spanish language. Some scholars consider her Spanish American first feminist. In spite of the restrictions imposed by the hierarchy, her influence extended through the Spanish speaking- even if writing from the constraints of a nun’s cell.
